Lighten an underexposed photo or darken one that came out too bright. Add your images, set an amount, and download the result.

This shifts every pixel by the same amount, which is the fastest fix for a photo that is uniformly too dark or too light. It won't recover detail lost to genuine over- or under-exposure — pixels that were already pure black or pure white stay that way — so there is a limit to what a global brightness shift can rescue.

How to adjust brightness

  1. Add your images

  2. Set an amount

    Positive numbers brighten, negative numbers darken. Start around 20 and adjust from there — small changes go further than they look in the preview.

  3. Adjust and download

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The adjustment runs in your browser using JavaScript, so your files stay on your device. You can confirm this by opening your browser devtools Network tab while working — there are no upload requests.

Why didn't a badly underexposed photo fully recover?

A brightness shift moves every pixel by the same amount; it cannot invent detail that was never captured. If part of the photo was recorded as pure black, brightening it evenly just gives you a lighter grey, not the shadow detail a camera never recorded in the first place.

Does this apply to the whole image?

Yes, uniformly. There is no selection of one area to brighten while leaving the rest alone — that needs a proper photo editor with local adjustments, not a single global control like this one.

What's a good starting amount?

Around 15–25 for a noticeable but natural-looking correction. Past about 50 in either direction, flat areas of the photo start visibly washing out or crushing to black.

Is there a limit on how many files?

Thirty at a time, which is a limit of your device rather than our policy — everything is held in memory while it works.

Can I adjust contrast too?

Yes — Adjust Contrast is the separate control for that, and you can run both on the same image.
