Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript, so your files stay on your device. You can confirm this by opening your browser devtools Network tab while converting — there are no upload requests.

Why would I convert away from WebP?

WebP itself is not the problem — every current browser reads it fine. The gap is everything else: some desktop editors, some print workflows, and some upload forms still expect JPG specifically and either reject WebP or mishandle it.

What happens to transparency?

JPG has no way to store it. If your WebP has a transparent background, those areas are filled with white before conversion, and we say so in the result. Keep the WebP if you need the transparency preserved.

Does this lose quality?

A small amount, the usual JPG re-encoding cost — invisible at the default quality. If the WebP was itself saved lossy, this is a second lossy pass; keep the original if you might need to convert again later.

Is there a limit on how many files?

Thirty at a time, which is a limit of your device rather than our policy — everything is held in memory while it works.
