Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. Metadata is removed in your browser using JavaScript, so your file stays on your device. You can confirm this by opening your browser devtools Network tab while working — there are no upload requests.
What exactly gets removed?
Title, author, subject, keywords, the creating application, the producer, the creation and modification dates, and any embedded XMP metadata stream some publishing tools write separately from these fields. All of it is deleted outright, not just cleared to blank values.
Does this add its own metadata back, like other tools do?
No, deliberately. Merging or rotating a PDF here stamps a small producer tag for provenance, but doing that here would work against the one thing this tool promises — the result carries no document metadata at all, not even ours.
Does this change the page content?
No. Text, images, and layout are exactly as they were — only the document properties are removed.
Why would I want to remove this before sharing a file?
The author field, creation date, and originating software can reveal more than intended — who actually wrote a document, what company template it came from, or when a supposedly-final version was really made. Stripping it before sending or publishing a PDF is standard practice for anything sensitive.
