Frequently asked questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs in your browser using JavaScript, so your files stay on your device. You can confirm this by opening your browser devtools Network tab while converting — there are no upload requests.
Will converting to PNG improve the quality of my JPG?
No, and this is the most common disappointment with any JPG-to-PNG converter. JPG's compression already discarded some detail when the file was first saved, and that detail cannot come back. PNG will store the result losslessly from this point forward — no further loss — but it cannot undo what already happened.
Why did the file get bigger?
Because PNG stores every pixel exactly rather than approximating it, the way JPG does. Expect the PNG to be several times larger than the source JPG, especially for a photograph with a lot of fine detail like foliage or texture.
Why would I want a PNG instead of the original JPG?
Mostly for what happens next: some editing tools, print workflows, and upload forms expect or work better with PNG. PNG also has no re-compression penalty for repeated saves, which matters if the image is going through several more editing passes.
Is there a limit on how many files?
